Launching the Solver School Newsletter

Your Go-To Guide for Mastering Poker Solvers

Greetings!

My name is Michael Lukich, and I’m thrilled to be launching the inaugural edition of the Solver School newsletter!

As a lifelong poker enthusiast with over 20 years of experience studying the game, I’m eager to share my passion for using solvers to analyze poker strategy.

For the past two decades, I’ve been obsessed with poker, reading every major theory book and constantly striving to improve my skills.

Professionally, I have a background in data analytics. That experience primed me for the transformative moment in 2018 when I started incorporating solvers into my poker study routines.

Within 18 months, I progressed from the $1/$3 tables to consistently beating $5/$10 and $10/$25 live games.

I started working with the Solve for Why team, where I played on a season of Poker Out Loud and served as a guest coach on their subscription site. I started sharing my poker analysis work with the community, first at my website, Lukich.io, and later at the Solver School site.

These experiences affirmed my belief that solvers could dramatically improve your understanding of the game.

The Evolution of the Solver Masterclass

I developed an understanding of how to use solvers quickly. The way to best work with the software parallels how one would use testing/optimization software in business strategy and analytics. But not everyone has that same background.

There is plenty of training content with coaches demonstrating concepts using solvers. But commercial solvers don't come with instruction manuals, and their outputs are prone to misinterpretation. And there didn’t seem to be much content on how to use these tools properly.

I developed the Solver Masterclass in 2022 to codify my solver knowledge into an organized curriculum. Drawing on my analytics background, I broke down the concepts into foundational building blocks, starting with how the algorithms work and advancing methodically to real-world applications.

The course catalog has added 2 more products and comprises 40+ hours of video content. It is organized into nine modules that will take you from solver newbie to expert. You'll gain the same specialized knowledge that allowed me to unlock my potential through thoughtful, optimized study.

Introducing the Solver School Newsletter

After launching the Solver Masterclass, I took time off to reflect and reorient. I engaged with the community of individuals who purchased the course and incorporated much of that feedback to iterate on the material within.

Today, I'm thrilled to unveil the next chapter of Solver School: this newsletter.

Much has happened over the last year in the solver world. Web-based tools, such as GTO Wizard, have exploded in popularity and made solvers more accessible to everyone — you no longer need a powerful computer to use one.

But as many who have used solvers know, they all have a bit of a learning curve. While they can solve problems related to any aspect of poker strategy, simply looking at solver outputs won't transform you into a winning player. The key is understanding how to configure the inputs to model specific scenarios and interpret the results accurately based on game theory and equilibrium concepts.

That's where I come in. The Solver School newsletter will teach you how to use solvers to study poker one email at a time. I plan to distill complex topics into digestible, actionable advice in ~500-1000 words, all delivered directly to your email inbox.

So, What's In Store for You?

The newsletter will drop twice a month, on or around the 15th and 30th. You can expect insights on a singular topic within each issue, sometimes amplified with solver imagery and/or the occasional bite-sized video.

As a preview, the subsequent newsletter on September 15 will define what solvers are, pinpoint their pros and cons, and reveal how you can use them to enhance your poker study and your game.

I'm still working out the longer-term schedule, but here's a current roadmap for you with approximate email dates:

  • September 15 — What is a Solver?

  • September 30 — Game Theory & Nash Equilibrium

  • October 15 — Poker Game Trees

  • October 30 — How Solver Algorithms Work

  • November 15 — Configuring Solver Inputs

  • November 30 — Understanding Solver Outputs

Join Us — It's 100% Free!

This is a zero-risk venture. At the very least, you'll gain actionable insights twice a month. What have you got to lose?

Before You Go...

If you're keen to dive deeper and explore the world of solvers, check out my courses: The Solver Masterclass is my flagship product. I also sell two Masterclass modules separately — From Macro to Micro and the Solver School Starter Pack.

You can also follow us on Twitter or YouTube for content.

Thanks for reading! I look forward to unraveling the world of solvers together.

Best,
Mike
